My Vision for 360 Wellness Solutions

It is time that I start to talk about my vision for health care. 360 Wellness Solutions is really about transforming the way that health care is delivered.
During graduate school I did presentation on value based health care. I remembered referencing the Harvard Business School website on Redefining Healthcare. Today I went back and looked at the site and this quote struck me. “No altruism is required: moving to value-based competition will benefit every participant in the system. Those who act early will benefit most.”
I realized today that the wellness program I am designing is not just a wellness program. It is the first step towards helping organizations change the way that health care is delivered in this country.
The HBR article says “Employers have the motivation and the clout to influence the other actors in the system, including their own employees. Employers are the major purchasers of independent health plans. In addition, about half of employer-provided health plans in the United States are self-insured plans, giving employers even more latitude in how such plans are designed and administered. Employers can exert a strong influence on providers, especially through collaborative efforts with other employers. Finally, employers can influence the way employees think about their health and health care. Redefining Health Care discusses why employers have missed the opportunity to drive value improvement in the health care system, and how they can reinforce the shift to value-based competition.”
Our first goal is to change the way employees think about their health and health care. However, as my client list grows, I hope to be able to facilitate collaboration between employers to drive change in the way that health care is delivered.
I still have a lot to learn to about comparative effectiveness studies but I do know that more care is not always better care. Really the goal isn’t about how much care it’s about improving the quality of life of both Coloradoans and Americans.
